Lynden High FBLA Students Bring Virtual Reality to Local Seniors
Posted on 10/19/2021

For one resident of a local senior living facility, a visit from a group of Lynden High School students meant she had a chance to revisit her former home of Dubai. It all came as part of a LHS FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) effort to bring virtual reality to local seniors.

LHS student Mason Namminga created a pen pal program and series of events for the FLBA club to do with the Solstice Senior Living facility in Fairhaven (Lynden facilities were closed to the students due to COVID-19 restrictions). One of the most recent activities involved the students heading to the seniors to show off the fun racing game Mario Kart and additional virtual reality opportunities.

"A woman who used to live in Dubai did the virtual reality headset and (LHS student) Cooper Graddon set it up with a tour of Dubai for her," says teacher Jody Bogues. "It was pretty special. She recognized everything."
