My name is Mr. David VanderYacht and I’m the principal of Isom Elementary School. I began attending Lynden schools as a kindergartner in 1973 receiving a diploma from Lynden High School in 1986. I received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education from Western Washington University in 1991. I spent my first ten years of teaching at Lynden Middle School, serving as a junior high language arts, social studies, health and 6th grade teacher. I earned a Master’s Degree in School Administration from Western in 1998. I was the assistant principal of Lynden Middle School for two years before accepting my dream position as principal of Isom Elementary School in 2004. This is my 30th year with the Lynden School District if you combine my 13 years as a student and 17 as an employee.

When I’m not working for the families of Lynden I’m enjoying the celebrations and challenges of my own family. My beautiful wife Vonda, certified as a physical therapy assistant, supplements her mother job with water aerobics instruction and personal athletic training. Our three children, Bryce (11), TJ (8) & Brenna (5), bring us great joy and numerous learning opportunities. They’re involved with numerous activities. Our family enjoys being together, we spend time camping in our recently purchased travel trailer, taking our Airedale Terrier, Alli, to the dog park, watching movies at home with fresh popcorn and going on day trips to Canada, Birch Bay, hikes above Larrabee and Seattle’s waterfront.
