School Construction Update – November 27, 2017

Fisher Elementary School

The final touches are almost complete.  The additional four classrooms are ready to go as soon as the concrete floor is polished and sealed.  This is a good thing as we already have one program that needs additional space and we are planning to open a jumpstart kindergarten class in January.

There will still be a few things to finalize and some landscaping to take care of in the spring.  We are also working with the City of Lynden to provide trail access along the north and west boarders of the school to extend the city trail system, providing recreational and safe routes to schools for community members, families, and students.

This has been a great process.  Working with Zervas Architecture and Colacurcio Brothers Construction has been an outstanding experience.  All parties involved worked hard to collaboratively solve challenges leading to a great facility for the students and community.

We have much to be thankful for and greatly appreciate the community for supporting the construction of the new Fisher Elementary School.

Lynden Middle School

Every time I visit the middle school I am amazed at the amount of work taking place.  There is certainly no letup in the pace of the work as sub-contractors are mobilized and ready to go as soon as they are given access.

A couple of highlights on the project over the past few weeks:

  • 25% of the classrooms have casework, wall finishes, and drop-down ceiling grids installed.

  • Ceiling insulation and sound proofing is being applied in the gymnasium and commons.

  • Brick and metal siding will be finished in a couple of weeks.
  • The electrical sub-contractor is ready to begin pulling wire to provide network infrastructure to the finished classrooms.

  • Almost all windows are in and we are a couple of weeks away from the building being fully enclosed.

  • There are thousands of details to consider and King Architects and Tiger Construction are doing a fabulous job of coordinating and problem solving the challenges that do arise.

We are also working the City of Lynden to develop a City trail on the north property line providing recreational trail access and safe routes to school for students and community members.
