Alston-Kline
Veritas Update

May 22

Good morning.

At last night’s board meeting, the board moved to instruct the district’s attorneys to begin an investigation regarding a number of allegations raised by the Alston-Kline process. This is a serious process, and we are asking that it be launched and completed post-haste – hopefully by school-year end. We will keep you posted.

On another front, we would like you to know that each board member, in tandem with one other, has been meeting with building administrators to a) apologize to those directly impacted by the way the building transfer process proceeded, b) hear what concerns all may have, and c) gain a “cumulative wisdom” on some key issues affecting the future of our district. We have been gratified by the process in terms of relationship building, information flow, and the appreciation expressed by many of the administrators.

In addition to countless hours being spent in meetings, phone calls, emails, and in consultation with legal counsel, we are continuing to work on a variety of issues including but not limited to addressing personnel, facility, and graduation requirements at LLL; encouraging the City Council to adopt appropriate impact fees, and of major importance, addressing the budget impact due to recent increases in costs and decreases in funding (the latter has been largely in the courts of the AC team at this point, and we will be more involved as recommendations come to us).

As David Vander Yacht was quoted in yesterday’s front-page article on school budget cuts, “The road ahead of us will undoubtedly be challenging.”

Yes, the road is challenging on several fronts, but if our principal and other meetings are any indication, many are willing, ready, and able to roll up their sleeves with the best possible attitude to unite behind, and in support of, our students – no matter how difficult that road may be.

Thank you for your ongoing interest.
