Think
Spring! First, we would like to let you know that next year,
Mrs. Shaffer will be taking a year long leave of absence. She will be
having a baby in June and is planning on staying home for a year before
she returns to LMS. A new person will fill in for her while she is gone.
Hopefully we will know who the new counselor is before the end of the
school year.
Spring is the time when we start to think
about transition and what next year might look like. We would like to
let you know of a couple of upcoming events for our transitioning 5th
and 8th graders. Our 8th grade student's recently pre-registered for
their High School classes. If you have any further questions regarding
High School registration or orientations, please contact the counseling
department at LHS, 354-4401. The High School will also be providing
Summer School credit retrieval for Math, English, or Science. Some of
our struggling students will be either required or recommended to participate
in summer school. Mrs. Shaffer has been working hard with the High School
counselors to provide a smooth transition for our 8th grade students.
If you have any question or concerns, please feel free to contact her
at 354-3760 x115 or the High School Counselors.
We are also excited to announce that all
8th grade students will be taking a trip to visit Bellingham Technical
College with their Lion Pride Conference teacher in June. This program
is the first step in trying to provide more career opportunities and
get our students thinking about their future beyond High School.
If you have any concerns about current
7th grade students transitioning into 8th grade next year, please contact
Mrs. LeBlanc before the end of the school year.
Many 5th grade students are getting excited
(or nervous) about the transition to 6th grade next year. We will be
hosting a 5th Grade Parent Night here at LMS on Thursday, May 1st at
7 pm. Another piece of 5th grade transitions is an LMS tour/visit. This
year we are hoping to have all 5th grade classes come over to LMS in
May to visit and tour our school and our ASB students will be available
to answer questions about life at LMS. Mrs. Shaffer and Mrs. LeBlanc
will also be meeting with the 5th grade counselors and teachers at BVE,
Fisher, and Isom to help make it a smooth transition for all 5th grade
students. If you have any concerns or information you would like to
share with us, please call us at 354-3760 x 115 or x134. We would love
to hear about all these great new future LMS students!
We will be continuing to work with our
struggling students and making plans for all students regarding next
year. If you are concerned about your student, please don't hesitate
to give us a call and set up a meeting.
Happy Spring!
