Mrs. Carey has a diverse background that extends beyond the world of English academics. She grew up near Whitefish, MT. Her first eight years of school were spent at a tiny country school with ten other students in her grade. She spent her junior year of high school in Aracatuba, Sao Paulo, Brazil. After graduating high school, Mrs. Carey joined the Army and served for ten years as a Russian linguist. In 2000, Mrs. Carey returned to school at Eastern WA University to fulfill her dream of becoming a teacher. She graduated from EWU with a BA in English and a minor in Library Science. Mrs. Carey was offered a job at Lynden High School, which she gladly accepted. Currently, Mrs. Carey is pursuing an additional certification in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL).
Mrs. Carey and her husband and son love it here. This area affords her the opportunity to pursue many of her other interests. She is an avid runner, cyclist, mountaineer, downhill skier, and spelunker (look it up if you have to), and occasionally enjoys fencing, hang-gliding, yoga, and kung fu (be forewarned). She also has a quiet side and enjoys gardening, cooking, knitting, sewing, reading (of course), walking the dogs on the beach, and yes, a military intelligence veteran who speaks two foreign languages, is an expert marksman, and knows kung fu, also enjoys knitting - go figure.
